How long it will take to get the score I want?
It depends on many factors such as your current level of English, amount of time you can put in for practice, your study skills, the relevance of the materials you are using and the expertise of your teacher. If your fundamentals in English are weak, then you might need more time. How to get Band 7 or higher?
IELTS examiners prepare question papers and mark your answers based on a marking criteria. If you are able to perform well along those lines (varies for each module), you will get Band 7 or higher.
Which is better- IDP or British council?
IDP and British council are exactly the same and you will get the same test at both exam centres. The examiners follow the same marking criteria.
What is the difference between Academic or General Training Test?
The Listening and Speaking modules are exactly the same.
The Reading paper is different and Academic reading is more difficult than General reading, though both have 40 questions which must be completed within 60 minutes
Task 1 Writing is also different. Academic test-takers have to describe an image (chart, graph, map, process etc), whereas GT test-takers have to write a letter.

Should I take the Academic Training Test or the General Training Test?
This is determined by your specific circumstances. If you are trying to immigrate to other countries for work, then General Training certificate is preferred.
